As one of the best CBSE schools in Bhubaneswar, ODM has been privy to the thousands of CBSE board exams, and one thing we’ve noted over the years is that there are enormous flaws in the way students frame their answers. We’ve seen students lose marks despite knowing concepts and despite having included everything in their answer!

So, we asked some of our board topping students to share insights on how they attempt board exams, about what to include and what to skip. Straight from the minds of toppers belonging to the top 10 CBSE schools in Bhubaneswar, is our guide on writing amazing answers for CBSE board exams.

Follow these 5 tips and you should hopefully be witness to some spectacular results - and not just in CBSE, but any future exams you attempt!

  1. Relevant Content
Read the question carefully and make sure answers are relevant to what is being asked! Don’t simply fill the page with everything you know about the topic. Examiners will not be impressed by this extra information, rather they will view it as a lack of knowledge and a way to cover up for the same by providing irrelevant information!

  2. Brevity Is The Soul Of Wit
As an extension of the aforementioned point, keep your answers concise and your language simple! Don’t use over the top vocabulary to try and impress examiners. English medium schools in Bhubaneswar such as ODM help students develop high proficiency in spoken and written English. But CBSE exams (except for the English exam) are not testing your English skills! Focus on the accuracy of your answer, rather than decorating it in flowery language.

  3. Prioritize
The CBSE exams do not need to be attempted in any fixed sequence! Pick questions which offer you the highest scoring potential and attempt them first. Just remember to clearly label the correct question numbers when doing so. Examiners are not put off by out of order questions, but rather it shows them you are a student who knows how to prioritize, further encouraging them to show leniency in marking questions that are highest in your order of priority.

  4. Look At The Marks!
We’re sure you’ve heard this one before, after all, it is pretty standard advice offered in most CBSE schools in Bhubaneswar - pay attention to marks before attempting a question! Yet it is the most commonly neglected advice. Students typically begin answering questions before glancing at the marks, then midway through their answer notice that the question doesn’t require such level of detail. This results in a sudden, non-coherent end to the answer. So look at the marks first, and plan the length of your answer accordingly!

  5. Go For It All!
No negative marking! CBSE board exams allow you to attempt every single question, regardless of how much you know about the topic! So once you’re done with your prioritized question, be sure to attempt the rest. At worst you may gain an additional mark or two!

Before we send you off, confident and ready to tackle any exam CBSE or otherwise, we’d like to share a final recommendation. Write your answer in black or blue pen, diagrams with a pencil and don’t waste time decorating your answer sheet with needless colours and headings! Stay calm and revise your work once you’re done with the paper. We wish you the very best of luck!
